The 2026 State of AI for GTM finds most AI GTM workflows are noise while the winners run a few narrow, repeatable, data-backed plays.

Top 5 signals
AI in GTM. Maja Voje's survey of GTM leaders separates AI plays that move pipeline from theater. The pattern: value comes from a few narrow, repeatable workflows (research, enrichment, personalization at the top of funnel) rather than blanket "AI everywhere," and last year's data showed 53 percent of leaders seeing little to no impact from adoption. The winners standardized a small number of prompts and tool chains their whole team can rerun. (GTM Strategist)
Why it matters: This is the exact contrarian post a CRO personal brand should own: most AI in GTM is noise, and leverage comes from ruthlessly narrowing to the two or three workflows that actually convert.
SaaS metrics. Figma popped 250 percent on its 2025 IPO day to a roughly 68 billion dollar valuation and now trades near 10 billion dollars, down roughly 87 percent from the high, even while growing 46 percent. The market is compressing multiples on application-layer SaaS regardless of growth rate. (SaaStr)
Why it matters: Growth used to buy forgiveness on multiple; in 2026 it does not. A CRO audience needs to hear that durable category position and AI-stack exposure now drive valuation more than a strong growth number.
RevOps and forecasting. Jason Lemkin reports the opposite of the "100 specialized agents" thesis: in his own stack, agents are consolidating into fewer, broader ones, including an AI VP of Finance now in production and collections running autonomously. Outbound is not dead, it is being re-plumbed through agents. (SaaStr)
Why it matters: The org-design implication is the story. If agents collapse into a few broad operators, RevOps and finance headcount plans for 2026 to 2027 need rethinking now, and that is a sharp founder-operator take.
A 780 Million Dollar Founder Is Unlearning the Classic SaaS Playbook to Build AI-Native
Positioning and messaging. A founder who sold his last company for 780 million dollars walks into his new company's all-hands to systematically unlearn the exact playbook that got him there: managerial layers, seat-based pricing, predictable MRR, hire-fast, scale the org chart. The premise is that AI-native companies win by rejecting seat-based, headcount-heavy defaults. (Linear: A VSaaS Newsletter)
Why it matters: Seat-based pricing and headcount-as-growth are the two sacred cows AI is slaughtering. A CRO who publicly questions both stakes out genuinely modern territory.

AI in GTM and GTM Engineering
- The 2026 State of AI for GTM: What's Working and What's Noise. Maja Voje's leader survey shows value concentrates in a few narrow, repeatable AI workflows, not blanket adoption, with a majority previously reporting little measurable impact. The takeaway is standardize the two or three plays that work and kill the rest.
- Clay: What GTM Engineering Is and How to Hire in 2026. The role is up 340 percent year over year with a roughly 127,500 dollar median; one GTM engineer can drive 5 to 10x the pipeline of a manual SDR team via signal-triggered systems. Signal-based outreach reports 3 to 5x higher reply rates than cold lists.
- Tomasz Tunguz: Most AI Work Can Wait. Tunguz argues the leverage is in routing, not model choice: most AI work runs fine on cheap local models, and picking the frontier model for every task is wasted spend. A useful cost-discipline frame as AI line items balloon.
- Lenny Rachitsky: How Top PMs Increase Their Leverage With AI. A practical framework for extracting real day-to-day leverage from AI rather than dabbling. Directly portable from PM workflows to GTM ops and enablement.

SaaS Metrics and Benchmarks
- SaaStr: Figma Grows 46 Percent and Trades at 6x. Figma is down roughly 87 percent from its post-IPO high to a roughly 10 billion dollar cap despite 46 percent growth, while slower peers hold 15 to 36x multiples. Category and AI-stack exposure, not growth rate, now separate the winners.
Positioning and Messaging
- Linear VSaaS: Unlearning the Seat-Based SaaS Playbook to Build AI-Native. A 780 million dollar exit founder is deliberately rejecting managerial layers, seat-based pricing, and headcount-driven scaling at his new AI-native company. The bet: the playbook that built last-generation SaaS is a liability in the AI era.
